The photos have been taken in Cyprus. A day after the first confirmed cases of COVID-19 schools as well as universities have been shut. Two weeks later, measures prohibiting unnecessary movement have been applied by the authorities. As a single mum of two as well as an academic, I am experiencing since then a daily struggle to keep balance between the new working from home set up of online teaching while at the same time being a stay home mum. As a photographer I try to document this complexity of the family life during this sudden surreal conditions. Mother’s and children’s everydayness is now full of moments of sweetness and bitterness caused by the social distancing, close friction with siblings, changes in daily routines and schooling as well as different options for entertainment that the restrictions have imposed.
